Popped My Cherry

It’s done, first one is in the bag. All proofs are processed (exp corrections, some b/w and cropping) and uploaded to website. This is one of the images I’m most proud of:

I lucked out here in a lot of ways. I knew a lot of people at this wedding even though I didn’t previously know the bride or groom and their families. I was able to spend several hours with the bride doing “getting dressed” type stuff and she was so chill that she just let me do my thing. So she was totally comfortable and her family seemed to like me too. I can’t be that personable, so they can’t possibly all go this easy.

There are, of course, parts I’m not entirely proud of – areas that are not as technically proficient or artistically executed as I would like. I had wildly varying exposures that only RAW could have ever saved me from. I only made it through the formals with the under-appreciated help of my wife. But what keeps me going are those few shots that standout, the ones that *I know* are good.

When I can get them all looking like that…

Eve of No Return

Filed under: Photography — tony @ 2:14 am

Tomorrow is my first official contracted wedding.

I attended the rehearsal this evening at both the church and the reception hall, the latter being a bit unusual. I went because I wanted the family to feel comfortable with me. I also wanted to see the locations and test exposures, especially with flash and the lightsphere.

The pastor, who was very cool and easy-going, said that he had never had a photographer attend a rehearsal before. I find that both surprising and not. I wanted to have a little advance knowledge of my shooting locations, minimizing some of the planning I’d have to do had I not been there before. That seems like a good idea, right?

Regarding workflow, I’ve discovered that uploading to Pictage is a pain in the ass. I had an album up in Smugmug ready to go before I even had the event configured at Pictage. But I’m determined to use my montly product credit.

Oh, I almost forgot. In something like coincidence, I received my new photography company credit card in the mail today. I think it’s a sign.
