Congrats to Stella’s and Performance Edge 2 at Hall of Fame

My family’s first competition of the season was this past weekend. We are all exhausted, but everyone did great and I even got a wedding in on Saturday. One highlight of the weekend, at the very last awards ceremony at the end of the last day, and thus at the fringes of sanity, was the Dad Dance Competition. My immediate assumption – that I was going to be immune from this spectacle – was quickly shattered as I spy Max rushing at me from the stage. Max begat the dance moms seated nearby (if only I was still sitting alone in prime shooting position…) which begat the awards host attention which ultimately begat yours truly as Dad #4. After surely being served by the first three dads, I did the only thing I could think of – which was absolutely nothing. I was all freaky show but no go. As luck would have it, this particular category was judged solely by audience decibel level – and the kids from Stella’s and PE2 put a deafening beatdown on the rest of that auditorium. Not only was I treated to chants of “Tony! Tony! Tony!” but I even got my own dance: The Tony Schreiber - it looks like a robot taking pictures.

Hot on the heels of Showcase, is another big event to start the season, Premiere. I had some awesome lighting and tried to take advantage of it. I’m still processing images (over 104 numbers!), but here are a few to get started. Links to more at the bottom.

Showcase 2009

Showcase traditionally marks the beginning of dance season around here. For the next four months, if I’m not shooting a wedding on Saturday, I’ll most likely be a dance competition, convention, camp or recital of some sort. While usually very long days or weekends, these events are a true family outing with everyone having a well-defined role and so they’ve come to define this time of year and this particular time period in our family history. That means I usually enjoy them.

Procrastinating Dance Parents Rejoice and Repent!

As we close out this year of dance, and I hear the frequent whimpering of “but I wanted to wait until the end of the year to purchase pictures”, I offer you the following tool to ease your pain of looking through all those (awesome) images of your dancer.

For any dance routine from the 2007/08 season, you should be able to find *all* the images from any event I shot by searching for the name of the routine like this:

Capitalization of the routine name is unimportant, but the spelling is critical. If you can’t find your routine this way, you can get a list of all the “keywords” here: http://images.tonyschreiber.com/keyword/. You can also go to one of your pictures in a gallery that you know exists – look below the image for the phrase “keywords:” and the routine name should appear there. If it’s there, click the name to then see all the images that match.
