Monica and Ronald – Miami Design District

We took Monica and Ronald around the Miami Design District to shoot images for their engagement session. Even in the late evening, it’s still pretty hot around here (I noted the temp the other night at 84 – at 1am), but we kept to shaded areas for most of the shooting.

Alejandra and Italo – Downtown MIA

You will have to forgive of me this forthcoming indulgence of hyperbole. But what do you get when you mix Italian style and charm, Latin American beauty and passion and the melting-pot backdrop of downtown Miami? Hotness!

Alexandra and Italo are both wedding photographers starting a new life together in South Florida. It really is a great story and their enjoyment of each other is palpable. I endeavored to do justice to my generous circumstances.

Salman and Annabella – Hit the Beach

This was definitely a cool session. I think it may have a lot to do with the fact that I didn’t have to drive, just chill in the back seat of Sal’s convertible. It may also have a lot to do with the fact that Sal and Anna are just a cool couple and were open to pretty much any idea I had. We spent some time at Beach Place, then we braved the chilly water at the seashore. Well, Anna and Sal braved it more than I did, but we all ended up wet.

Caitlin and Ryan – Fairchild Tropical Gardens

It is common blogging etiquette that you should not apologize for a lack of activity on your blog. So I won’t do that, instead I will just blog backwards for a while! I met Caitlin and Ryan on Friday at the Fairchild Tropical Gardens in Coral Gables. These gardens are a very common location in South Florida, but this is actually my first time ever shooting there or even visiting. The weather is awesome this time of year (cool breeze, high 70s/low 80s) and the skies were super clear.

Wet Esession

“E-session” is short for Engagement Session, which is really just an excuse for a pre-marital portrait session. I’ve read that they grew from the custom of having pictures taken for publication in the newspaper engagement announcements. Makes sense. I like them because we get to know the couple in a neutral setting to have some fun. We can get to know each other and I can size up how I have to shoot them.

Amber and Dan have their wedding approaching soon and we did a session with them at the beach. We end up at the beach a lot, and as much as I dislike same-ness, the beach is a Florida wedding staple.
To keep it interesting, we agreed that they would get very wet. It was a little colder out ther than I would have liked, but the water actually helped, being surprisingly warm.

They both did great and I think we got some really nice shots. I wanted to get closer for some shots, but I had to keep raising the camera out of the destructive path of oncoming waves. I shot with the 35/1.4 and 70-200/2.8 only. On a second camera, my wife had a new 70-200/4IS. That is a sweet little lens – and I do mean little, relative to the 70-200/2.8. The skies were overcast, so had nice even light, but little warmth. Some shots have fill-flash – I’m using that a bit more than usual currently.
