Wedding with Sam Hassas – San Jose

For an upcoming wedding, The bride and I were discussing when to start with pictures and the best way to time events given other constraints. I figured if I had the liberty to define this brief period in time, I would try to do so with as much detail as I could muster.

INTERIOR. AFTERNOON.

Tropical Hotel Suite.

03:00
Brooding, auteur photographer enters the hotel suite. Bridemaids swoon
and exchange glances. Then giggle. He appraises the room and its
occupants, deems them worthy of photography and prepares himself and his
equipment.

03:04
All the occupants of the room have been dressed, mostly stockinged-feet
dart about. They are donning final accoutrement and attending to each
others hair or makeup, or often, tidying the area. Our stealthy
photographer has begun to capture details around the room, an
intelligence gathering mission in disguise.

03:10
The wedding dress is captured near or far from where it hang, perhaps
adjusted slightly, perhaps not. Other details begin to take shape:
rings, flowers, shoes and the activity that accompanies the anticipation
of a special event.

03:15
The bride is in the last stage of makeup. She is stunning, as all brides
are. The remaining touches highlight the key features that define our
unique heroine.

03:20
The bridesmaids have assembled in another room with glorious light to
prepare the bride's dress for a delicate installation.

03:22
The bride enters, an attendant closes the door slowly behind her. The
photographer is left in the hallway, tapping his foot. politely.

03:28
The photographer finds optimum vantage points and deftly records the
last few moments of the bride's transformation.

03:30
Attendants gracefully fall away from the bride in awe, leaving her basking
in a shimmering sunlit glow.

FADE TO BLACK.

Karol and Jorge Wedding

Another long day with three locations – three locations FAR from each other. But don’t get me wrong, I still love this job. Karol and Jorge were awesome and the family and wedding party were great fun. My favorite moment of the night was when Karol’s dad had finally warmed up to me and told me I was f$%&ng crazy. Loved it.

Suzy and Nick – Westin Colonnade

Ooh, busy day here. I had my friend Jamie (from Mayfly Photography) helping out and my intern Ali running a fun photobooth (separate blog post for that later) – three different locations and a pretty big reception. Really though, that’s about I what expect these days!

Lynne and Lloyd – Walt Disney World

Lynne was a bridesmaid at a wedding I did about a year and a half ago. We hit it off really well – she said she usually couldn’t stand photographers but thought I was awesome. Yay me. With the added bait of Mickey Mouse, I was able to get the Hassasinator and his family to come with me to Orlando and shoot. The first image really sets the tone. We shot at a dessert reception first (for the Fantasmic show), then the wedding and reception a day later, then another dessert reception (this time for Illuminations) that night. A great time was had by all. No, really.

Monique and Bobby – Bahia Mar

Except for the rain, this event had the all the marks of a classic South Florida beach wedding. Summer rain is like clockwork in these parts, but occasionally it does things we can’t predict. Regardless, everything (except the beach pics) went off without a hitch and we had some of the best bridal boogie I’ve seen in some time.

Bride Spotlight: Lisa Cericola

Lisa had an awesome wedding at the Hotel Biba in West Palm Beach, FL. She is, according to her blog bio, a “writer, magazine editor, and home cook living in Brooklyn”. Edy and Donald – Atlantic Hotel

I’ve been to my fair share of hotels on Miami and Fort Lauderdale Beach, but this was my first visit to the Atlantic Hotel. Great decor and an awesome staff (big props to the coordinator Nini) made for a casual yet elegant affair. Jorge Antonatos from Vision DJs laid down the tunes (I love it when the DJ can actually mix) including some classic Miami freestyle. Edy (check out the awesome dress!) and Donald were a pleasure to work with and up for anything I asked of them.
